Friday Randoms

It's been a minute huh? Sorry guys (well, that's if you even missed it at all). Hope you guys have been good and having a good life. Can you believe Easter is on Sunday? Lent went by so fast but then again like a broken record the year is flying by. I really had a good and productive lent, the curve balls keep coming but we have to keep trucking abi? Well, I'll just go ahead and random "Don't question your blessings, own your blessings" This is quite unnecessary but I still wanted to let you guys know that I changed my mind about this particular random thought and deleted it :p I remembered reading somewhere that it's ok to be humble and brag as long as you don't forget to add the God aspect. That made me chuckle. Man, am I the only one who feels for Kim K? That woman is getting some serious backlash over any and everything. This morning the radio station was talking about her answer to being asked how she plans on raising a biracial child. She...

Words n Thoughts

I wish I had saved it but I read something this week, I can't quote it but the gist was basically sometimes it's not that people don't want to be there for you or understand you but sometimes it's just too much for them to be able to handle someone else's troubles. I can kinda understand that, especially if you are like me, who is so cautious of not being a burden or wahala on people, asking for favors is just a long ting for me. Then I also ran into a tumblr post (sidebar - I must be the only person who doesn't tumbl, the most tumbling I do is clicking on links people post or if a friend sends me something) which I think was a good read. I also like the fact that the person who wrote it had in parentheses besides their name - Internal Acceptance Movement. I think Internal Acceptance is such a huge thing to have and is also missing in a lot of people in our generation - even when they think they have it. It's also seems to be the major theme in my Lenten Jou...

Some Words for the Week Ahead

It's just been a trying week for me, heck just 2013 in general. I think it's because I made a resolve to just worry less and let go this year, so everything has been thrown in high gear and it has been one thing after the other. Or it could be, as the receptionist at my office building said Mercury is in retrograde and throwing everything all out of wack. Either way, I kept my resolve but today was just even more trying, the simplest things were a struggle, I almost just sat in my car and cried. I remembered an email I found in my inbox while cleaning it up that seemed apt for the moment. I don't even know who I got it from although I think it was from my CILy but I figured it was worth sharing: Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid l...

3six5NG Project

Hi Guys, Incase you haven't heard of it, the #3Six5NG project is a project I heard about from blogger, RustGeek . It's a pretty cool project and aims to have 365 posts in 365 days from a Nigerian perspective on any topic. In other words " creating a crowd sourced diary of Nigerian perspectives from 365 people for 365 days. Inspired by the Len Kendall and Daniel Honigman created   the3six5 , we’d set out to create our own ‘local’ the3six5, for Nigeria and Nigerians". They project kicked off in March and they are looking for contributors, just so I don't botch the whole premise, I'll copy and paste what I was sent and encourage you to sign up for one of the days, it's a pretty cool thing to be part of. Background A few years ago, I stumbled on the excellent  the3six5 project ; founded and curated by two Chicago based techies -  Len Kendall  and  Daniel Honigman . Over the course of 2011 I would get the opportunity to  contribute one piece  to ...

I'm fully aware these people don't know me but it's my blog and I can blog about what I want, abi? Ehen, glad we agree. So like, this coupledom worries me. I feel like Mr West controls her. We all know Ms Kardashian's relationship persona, she's in love with love and based on the show, she seems to be a lil' pushover sometimes but maybe it's the show (i doubt). Anyways, for some reason as I was watching Kourtney and Kim in Miami, it just hit me that for true, this babe only wears black and white and if we are lucky she spices it up with grey :/ I flashed back to that scene on Keeping Up with the Kardashians when she first started dating Kanye and he came over one day and cleaned out her whole closet of shoes and clothes, talking about he wants to upgrade her style to a classic look. Now listen, if you want to come upgrade my closet and all, more power to you and yay to that. But to clear out ALL my clothes and then bring in your stylist to replace the clot...

Songs on Shuffle

I've done this in the past, figured I'd do it again. I pressed play and below are the 10 songs that came on. 1.   Beneath Your Beautiful - Labrinth ft Emeli Sande . I absolutely love this song. Everything about it, from the voices to lyrics to melody. If you haven't heard this song, run along now and rectify that. 2. Tongolo - D'banj . I don't even remember the last time I heard this song. Back when D'banj was D'banj, not this new one we have going on. 3. Teach Me - Fantasia . This was from her "Back to Me" album, which I have to say is actually pretty good. I have actually always been a fan of her voice. Very chill, nice song. 4. In your hands - Jason Mraz . So I have nothing to say, it's one of those songs I always skip when it comes on and have never really listened to. Listening to it now and it's not bad. 5. I'm a Mavin - Mavins . From the Solar Plexus album. Song just dey. Nothing to say. 6. Come back home - William Fi...

Unhealthy Snacks

Image
Back in 2010 I did a post about unhealthy cereals here . They were cereals most people thought were good for you but really weren't. Now I want to share this new list I saw on Yahoo about snacks you think are healthy but some really aren't healthy for you. Snack #1: Rice cakes This once uber-popular "diet" snack has a mere 35 calories, but consists of high-glycemic, puffed-up white rice with a low nutritional profile. "They're mostly made of air," says Sharon Palmer, R.D., a dietician and author of "The Plant-Powered Diet: The Lifelong Eating Plan For Achieving Optimal Health, Beginning Today." "You're better off choosing a low-glycemic snack that keeps you feeling full longer." Verdict: Ditch it. "You want to get as many nutrients as you can with your calories," Palmer says. "You can enjoy a cup of fresh strawberries for those same 35 calories and you'll get more flavor and nutrients." Snack #...

Quotes

Bunch of quotes I came across: "That thing called "trust". No one really has it, in my opinion. I think all we have is faith that our fears won't come true. "I couldn't even remember being lonely before, certainly not in this way, until I had seen the edge of all the way you could be with another person, which brought up all the myriad ways that person could never be there for you" (courtesy of leggy) "Hell is not quite other people. Hell is the other people we let into our heads and reign over us" "Let everything happen to you. beauty and terror. just keep going. no feeling is final" - Rainer Maria Rilke "A friend is a gift you give yourself" - Robert Louis Stevenson Speaking of quotes, someone sent me a link today asking me if I knew that UK Daily Mail (online) quoted a tweet of mine, where I called Kelly Osbourne stupid for calling Quevenzhane, Little Q on the Oscars Red Carpet. (I was just really peeved abou...

Differences

Image
If you have not heard of Lisa Lampanelli, she is an annoying comedian whose whole shtick is offensive racial humor that includes repeated use of the n-word. So, last week she posted this tweet: Notice her use of the n-word. Alright so after outrage on the interwebz, she offered this as an explanation: "   there’s a world of difference between the term “n—a” and “n—er.” The former “means ‘friend,’” she said, while the latter is a slur: “If I had put the word ending in ‘er,’ that would have been a very derogatory thing about Lena meaning she is less than me, and I view her as very above me. ‘A’ on the end means ‘my friend.’”  “I have been using these words since I started in comedy and guess what, people? I won’t stop anytime soon, just because your ass is up on Twitter,” she told HuffPo. “I have always used in my act every racial slur there is for Asians, blacks, gays, and Hispanics. To me, it’s acceptable if the joke is funny and if it is said in a context of no hate...
